THE WHISKIES & RUMS

The splendid mahogany gantry and cabinets are almost full to capacity with over 500 whiskies from Scotland and around the world. The choice includes most of the current official distillery bottlings and we also feature many which are no longer available or are from closed or mothballed distilleries. Independent bottlers are an important source of rare and unique bottlings and our range includes Cadenheads, Duncan Taylor & Co and Gordon & MacPhail.

The range includes many old and rare single malts, including some distilled pre-1939. We have a 65 year old Macallan, distilled in 1938 and probably the oldest dram on sale anywhere in the world, a 50 year old Macallan and a 50 year old Glen Grant, a 40 year old Highland Park and a 40 year old Laphroaig, a 39 year old malt from Bruichladdich, a 41 year old single grain from Invergordon, 35 year old malts from Glenrothes, and 30 year old malts from Ardbeg, Balvenie, Glenfarclas. We have recently taken delivery of the latest bottling of the famous Black Bowmore, this one is 42 years old, and also perhaps for the first time anywhere in the world, we offer the full range of millennium bottlings of Springbank, from the 25 year old to the 50 year old. On view are over 30 versions of Macallan, some 25 versions from Springbank Distillery, 10 varieties each of Balvenie, Glenmorangie, Glenrothes, Highland Park and over 60 malts in total from Islay.

Included from the rest of the world are Pappy Van Winkle’s 20 year old and a 23 year old Evan Williams from America, Yamazaki , Yoichi and Ichiro’s single malts from Japan together with several blended malts, Amrut single malt from India, the designer-packaged Penderyn single malt from Wales and over 15 Irish Blends, single malts and pure pot still whiskeys.

Historically, Aberdeen was an important fishing port and with that went a thirst for rum. To help maintain this tradition, The Grill also stocks a range of over 30 rums from around the world.

If the choice of whiskies seems overwhelming, we have a comprehensive menu complete with tasting notes, and a small library of books to help you decide which malt is appropriate for you or the occasion. Graham, Murray and the friendly staff are on hand to offer a suggestion or two if need be. If you still can’t decide why not try the Whisky Tasting Menu, allowing you to sample several whiskies together, either from different regions or different ages from one distillery.

A limited range of bottles is stocked for sale in-house, and a comprehensive no-deposit ordering service is also available (delivery normally within 3-4 days). A range of merchandise to remind you of your visit may be purchased, including an engraved version of the Glencairn Glass, which are used to serve the drams. The Grill’s own bottling of Mortlach is also available.
